Something to Think About-
Three Kinds of Givers
There are three kinds of givers: the flint, the sponge, and the honeycomb. Which kind are you? To get anything from the flint, you must hammer it. Yet, all you get are chips and sparks. The flint gives nothing away if it can help it, and even then only with a great display. To get anything from the sponge, you must squeeze it. It readily yields to pressure and the more it is pressed, the more it gives. Still, one has to squeeze it. To get anything from the honeycomb, however, one must only take what freely flows from it. It gives its sweetness generously, dripping on all without pressure, without begging or badgering. The honeycomb is a renewable resource. Unlike the flint or the sponge, the honeycomb is connected to life; it is the product of the ongoing work and creative energy of bees. If you share like a honeycomb giver your life will be continually replenished and grow as you give.

When we share we freely give and we acknowledge that all we have is on loan and others have as much right to the things of God's creation as we do.

Generation Change
Lock-In Aug. 20-21
Some teens will deal with sex. Some teens will deal with alcohol and drugs. But all teens will deal with money. Sadly, few teenagers are prepared for the realities of personal finance. Only 51% know how to write a check, and only 34% can balance a checkbook. Few students understand the principles of a healthy financial lifestyle.
The result?
The next generation spends money they don't have to buy things they don't need to impress people they don't even like. It's time for a change.
We are going to provide teens
with sound, biblical principles for winning with money. Pilgrim is sponsoring a workshop for teens called Generation Change. Dave Ramsey's fun and entertaining study on personal finance, Generation Change, empowers youth with the skills to spend and live wisely. This class is for youth from 12-18 years old.

The featured program at Young at Heart Meeting
Thursday, August 12, 2010
Anyone who is retired, making plans for retirement, or is concerned about IRA conversions is invited to attend. You will benefit from this program presented by William "Bill" Scott. He spoke to us once before several years ago and Mr. Scott is serving some of Pilgrim's members as their financial advisor. Bill specializes in retirement money matters and will update us on what to expect in the light of the many retirement account and tax law changes that will most likely affect us as the Bush tax cuts run out and all the new financial "reforms" come to bear on our futures, savings and securities. Young at Heart begins with coffer and fellowship at 9:30 a.m. ...comes to order for the more formal part of the meeting at ten o'clock with prayer and a word from the Lord devotion. For those who want to come only for the "Money Matters", Mr. Scott will begin his part of the program at 10:35 a.m. and conclude at 11:30. Pot Luck will be the fare on the lunch table. All are invited to join Young at Heart for this very important program, fellowship and pot luck lunch afterward. Those joining in on the lunch may want to bring some side dish that will complement a wonderfully prepared barbecue brisket main dish. Not only will you be fiscally educated but you'll be delightfully nourished for any endeavor the afternoon may bring.

New Preaching Series Starts August 8th
"Everybody's Normal Till You get to Know Them" will help us to build the community that God desires. The Bible teaches that we are all imperfect people, and yet, God wants us to live in community.  With all our quirks, sins and jagged edges, we need each other. Community is more than just a word- it is one of the fundamental needs of people. So how can flawed, sinful people master the forces that drive us apart and come together in life-changing relationships designed by God us for? How do we become close to others without getting hurt?

God's Word is a real help for real people, living in a real world. This series will talk about how imperfect people can pursue community with other imperfect people. God's word teaches us how to build strong relationships with one another. Nothing can substitute for the life-giving benefits of connecting with others in Godly ways.

The First Kiss
At the end of their first date, a young man in a bygone era took his favorite girl home. He decided to try for that important first kiss. With an air of confidence, he leaned his hand against the wall, smiled, and said, "How about a good night kiss?"
"Are you crazy?" she said. "My parents will see us!"
"Oh, come on! Who's gonna see us at this hour?"
"No, please. Can you imagine if we get caught?"
"Come on, they're all sleeping!"
"No way. It's too risky!"
"Please, please, please. I like you so much."
"No, no, no. I like you too, but I just can't!"
"Oh yes you can. Please?"
"No, no. I just can't."
"Pleeeeease?. . ."
Then to their surprise, the porch light went on, the door opened, and there stood the girl's sister, hair disheveled, in her pajamas. In a sleepy voice she said, "Dad says to go ahead and give him a kiss. Or I can do it. If need be, dad will come down himself and do it. Whatever you do, tell your date to take his hand off the intercom button."
